Why is the touch panel ignoring me?
A panel that answers in some places and ignores you in others is nearly always the printed layer you press or the flat ribbon behind it, not the board deeper in. Clean and dry the face, check nothing has been locked, and restart it once. If half the keys still do nothing, call (213) 652-7030.

See it
Some presses register and others do nothing, or the whole face has gone deaf while the display is still lit. Sometimes one corner works and the rest of the row does not.
What it means
The surface you touch is a thin printed sheet joined to the electronics by a flexible tape. Heat, steam and cleaning fluid work on that sheet and on the joint; near the coast, damp salty air works on the joint too. A lit display with dead keys points there first.
What to do tonight
Wipe the face with a barely damp cloth and dry it properly, then try again with a dry fingertip rather than a knuckle or a nail. Look for a lock setting that may be on. Restart it at the breaker once. Never spray anything directly at the panel.

Why the board is the last suspect, not the first
A dark, silent oven and a lit oven that will not listen are two different jobs, and the second one rules a great deal out before anybody unpacks a meter. If the display is showing something, the board is powered and running its programme; it is receiving nothing from the keys, or receiving nonsense. That points along the path from your fingertip inwards — the printed face, then the tail that carries the signal, then the connector it plugs into. Each of those is cheaper to put right than the board, and each of them lives where the steam and the fingers are. In Venice and Marina del Rey we also find corrosion on connectors that look perfectly clean from the outside, which is the same salt story this site has written about elsewhere.

Could the whole panel be dead rather than just some keys?
It can be, and that is a different fault: a face with no display and no sound at all is usually a supply or a board question rather than a surface one. If nothing lights when you switch the breaker back on, treat it that way and book the visit.
